SIRD Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Is there a cost to attend the SIRD? What expenses are not covered for the SIRD?
For all SCRM courses and the SIRD costs of tuition, housing, and meals are covered by grants from NSF. In addition, students receive free copies of all software used for instruction. The cost of transportation to the site is the responsibility of participants.
I am a PhD student in a discipline other than anthropology. Am I eligible to apply for the SIRD?
The SIRD is funded by the cultural anthropology program at NSF and therefore anthropology PhD students get priority. Unfortunately, we are unable to include other social science disciplines because of limited resources.
I am not a U.S. citizen. Am I eligible to apply for the SIRD?
You do not have to be a U.S. citizen to apply for the SIRD. As long as you are a Ph.D. student in an anthropology program at university in the United States, you are eligible to apply.
